UI!!

Writer's picture: Dabrina♡Dabrina♡

I am currently creating the buttons for the menu's along with the stars that will be displayed after playing each level :). I had previously done sketches for the placement and the initial design of the buttons and now I am bringing them to life✨. The UI is a very important part of the player's experience, things must be placed well and designed well. It should be clear and eye-catching, but it must not get in the players way. It should be seen and not be heard (that doesn't make sense here, but the point is that it shouldn't be overwhelming, it should be eye-catching enough for the player to see and it must simply serve its purpose.)

I have created a few simple button templates that can be applied to every button within the game. They are all coloured the same to keep a simple theme throughout the game. I initially struggled with creating the buttons as we didn't have a lot of art, so I was unable to gather what kind of colour scheme the game had. Due to this, I went with a beige and white button. Both of those colours are kind of neutral so they should fit into into a variety of colour schemes. I originally added text to the button to reduce some stress on the programmers, but we decided on the empty buttons instead so changing the size of the buttons wouldn't result in stretched or squashed text.

In terms of the star system, we took inspiration from angry birds. With angry birds, depending on your score you'd get 0-3 stars. Our game follows in suit, it's almost a copy 👀 but, we call it inspiration. So, depending on your score/progress you achieve either 1-3 stars, it basically lets the player know how good or bad they did.

(sneak peak ^^^)
