Character customisation

Hi and welcome to another blog post. Today, I am going to be discussing a little bit about character customisation. The first thing I knew I wanted to implement in my final year project was character customisation. However, as I’ve never done 2D character customisation I’m a little confused on where to start. My first idea was making a sprite sheet for every possible customisation combination and animation, but I realised that obviously, that approach is a very bad idea and is very impractical. So I started doing research and found out two possible ways that I could implement character customisation.


The first option was using a skeletal mesh which I literally had never heard of before the tutorial mentioned it. It seems very useful but also like a lot of work. I am still considering looking into it though!



The second option includes using scriptable objects. I thought using scriptable objects would work for 3D game object but it turns out it works for 2D as well!! I am still a little confused by the approach so I'll have to do my research before choosing what's best for me.


Well.. if worse comes to worst I will create two characters and have the player choose in between them! (Genshin style)
