HI! This week I'm going to talk a bit about the classical piece I am planning to make for our game (diegetic sound). For our prototype, I think we only need two songs. Despite having multiple scenes, I think some scenes will work better with just atmospheric noises and voice acting.
A masquerade ball would not be a masquerade ball without music so we definitely need some talking ambience and a song to play in the background. Straight away I think of classical piano pieces when it comes to a masquerade ball and thankfully I am well versed in quite a few classical pieces; The first piece that came to mind was Nocturne in C♯ minor by Chopin, its a very peaceful piece and definitely would suit a masquerade atmosphere. The inspiration I took from this piece is the trills that play throughout the song. The technique is found in a lot of older classical pieces and is known to give a "sweet and pleasant" effect which definitely sounds like a sound that would be found at a masquerade ball.
The second piece I am planning to take inspiration from is Arabesque No.1 by Claude Debussy. I'm not particularly planning to adopt any techniques this piece has, but more the vibe it has. The piece feels as if it goes through different moods as the piece progresses and that's something I'd like to reflect in the piece I make. If timed correctly, the piece can reflect the emotions that the player and the protagonist will feel at certain moments during the game and cutscene.
I have already started working on the piece for the game, but I began by playing around with a melody I made 6 years ago. I never got the chance to use it and thought it would fit well for a masquerade ball, but when I sat at the piano and played it a few times I realised it's a little depressing and that's not really the atmosphere we want for our masquerade ball. We want people to be dancing, not reflecting on their past mistakes. I played around with it multiple times, but it wasn't really portraying the vibe I wanted the piece to have. Honestly, it's the chord progression that makes it sound sad, (I literally composed the melody for a song about a man who killed his first love) I should have known to move on because I may have had some of the piece already.
Well, that has been some of my music journey so far. I am going to try my best to progress further with the music. I actually have more to discuss about the second song, but I'm unsure if the cutscene I have in mind for the song will be made. So I'm holding off a little bit!!
THANKS FOR READING I AM SORRY IT'S LONG </3
